Dear crazy gay,
I will tell you that i have arrived here by tipyng "nmr free software". I have a small problem, having a meeting tomorrow with a NMR raw data that i can not open with my payed MestRe-C, the thing is that i got this raw data from our sftp but i can not read it because is a very heavy experiment that was run in a different spectrometer without a defaul conversion to JCAM data.
I was expected kind of demo version that could fix my temporary problem.
I am wasting my time with this because i really believe you are a bit agresive and because i do not like to be adress as Mr Thief.
Relax

Do you really think that students have that much money to buy any program they need to process the data for their reports?
when i´m working i will have. But i think i´ll be used to work with alternative programs then. I´ll try to explore spinworks. There IS freeware for students. And this IS P.R. for the program.

PS.: I thougt topspin is providet by Bruker? Don´t you think they earn enought money with the hardware? If someone buys a spectrometer for 300000€ the software should be called "service", ever heard about this word??? And i´m pretty sure that even your so called "thieves" have used a Bruker-NMR-Spectrometer (in fact i don´t even know if there is another company producing such spectrometers) in an installation which has e permanent (and also very expensive) service agreement with bruker. I don´t think Bruker will loose to much if the software for processing the data (perhaps only mainly) produced at THEIR spectrometers would be free.

thanks for annoing me

To anonymous: if you look this blog around you will find that there is a lot of freeware available, and also some very good and CHEAP commercial software, which, IMHO, is more valuable than TopSpin. TopSpin is the most over-rated NMR software around and the cause is just that people are so blind and lazy like you. They don't evaluate the alternatives.

first you adress this thread to "thieves" and now you call me "blind and lazy". Just at the moment i am evalueting an alternative! Come back with some real arguments and stop humilating other peaople. If this is the best you can say then you should perhaps stop contaminating the web with your rotton mind.
greetings, the "blind and lazy" person

I apologize for having offended you without a reason. You are neither blind nor lazy. I am looking forward for your review on SpinWorks. I hope you will agree, eventually, that there is no excuse for stealing the commercial products when there are free alternatives so easily available.

ahah, dear thief! bella questa.
ma se le università italiane non hanno nemmeno i soldi per piangere!
cmq, sono arrivato qui cercando review su software nmr. quele a tuo parere è il miglior freeware?

At 12:23 PM, Blogger old swan said...

As I wrote your blog I thought by nmyself: Jesus, Che palle, what an egomaniac ignorant. Typical italian!" Then I wanted to verify my oppinion and started to read the other blogs and postings... Do you know how much a good NMR program costs? Do you know how often I would us it? Do you know how much I earn monthly? The financial efford for evaluating 4,5 NMR spectra per year is really too high amd I thought to find an old free version of a bruker NMR software for my private laptop. I have allready some old, not very userfriendly NMR programs which are full of bugs. But the modern datafiles are not kompatible anymore. So stop to be such a stronzo.

After more than 1 year, nobody replied to the first question:
Why you want to do research for free ?

At 5:29 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

you are just wasting my time. the only reason i google topspin is to ask Bruker some question on the GENUINE software that i already have in my pc.

At 8:06 PM, Blogger old swan said...

Do you mean that I am responsible for the time you have wasted because YOU have lost the address of Bruker ????
Do you mean that I am responsible because my blog ranks higher than Bruker on Google? Impossible, I never cared about fame...

Dear Mr. alvarez,

It was nice reading your questions but what to do ask google.
And far as research is considered serendepity is not a crime i think just accidentally got to u.
Felt happy to see to see another Mahathma Gandhi in you.

I didn't know that it would make me thief and that the definition of stealing has become so dick-headedly narrow minded, sorry Saint Dick!

Hey all,

if you are looking for free software which is really good you may risk a look on the jeol website (japanese nmr manufacturer) www.jeol.com offers their regular nmr software for free.
the coloring is a bit strange though but you can open any format and adjust a lot of things. they send you licence code for your computer but thats for free. no shareware.

Previous poster - thanks for the Joel software recommendation.

What's wrong with looking for free software if it's available. I agree with previous posters, Bruker makes enough money on service/installation/equipment purchases.

It seems to me they would generate goodwill with customers by providing 'topspin' for free for the users of their own instruments.

Maybe next time we buy a spectrometer, we'll purchase a Varian instead.

I'll answer to all of your questions:

1. Software, like sex is better when it's free. In fact ¿why do you recommend to use freeware?

2. I use cheaper techniques when I can

3. In fact I use the free alternatives like sparky but I have data that I cannot use because of the Bruker formats. I want TopSpin to process data and then analyse it with sparky because it's better than TopSpin (not because it's free)

4. My university is public so my university's money is my money.

5. No, I don't feel as a thief

6. No, I'm not trying to offend or insult other people, so I don't feel like shit

7. No, if I steal tubes, solvent or time other people loss tubes, solvents or time but ¿who get its software uninstalled or removed when I use it? Only the people who want to make benefit with other people's research is losing

8. The knowledge must be free and software is knowledge. But in a capitalist society that's difficult to understand.

And no, it's no necesary for my survival but it makes my survival better.

9. and 10. Maybe but I don't buy software

And yes, I'm a pirate; a very bad guy, the origin of all the bad things of the universe, mwuahahaha!!

Topspin? We ain't got no Topspin. We don't need no Topspin. I don't have to download any stinking Topspin!

But I would like to download open source NMR freeware tools which is what I Googled for... without being insulted by some Brukophile crank.

crazy guy,
are you such a self-centered mean person to make such combinations of words that not a single normal one would like to read?

At 1:27 PM, Anonymous Philipp said...

Have you progamed this software, or why does this issue bother you so much? If you want to make the world a better place there are more important fields than protecting the Bruker Coporation from software piracy. Any facility that owns NMR spectrometres normaly buys licences for NMR processing software anyways, or not? The place I'm working at does this as well so usually I don't have to use check for free software. Now I broke my leg and have to stay home with my foot up but still have to finish some report and have analyze NMR data. So I was checking if topspin might be for free. Naively I was thinking Bruker might just provide it as freeware. In general I have to assent to lots of the previous statements, you seem to be unhealthily aggresive (maybe even a bit crazy), think about finding a girlfriend or do some sports also reggae music sometimes is able to chill me down if I am stressed out. cheers

At 2:35 PM, Blogger old swan said...

Dear Philipp,
this post is 3 years old. I have already clarified my intentions in the rest of my activity on this blog. I am not affiliated with Bruker, actually I compete with them. There is plenty of free NMR software out there, there are so many opportunites you really have an hard time to choose among. Topspin is not free, nor is it the best NMR software that ever appeared. Actually I don't like it and have dedicated another post to list some of its defects.

So, if you just did some NMR studies in some other university and came back home and have no way to process the data I obtained? Should I pay a really big amount of money just to process some data and never use it again? Or I should just leave the data unprocessed since I can get the program I need? I'm not that familiar to any other software... I think a free trial version would be necessary...
